As the countdown for the 2024 Masters starts, golfers have started their preparation for the first major of the year. In this, six-time major champion Phil Mickelson is reported to be now be working with veteran caddie Jon Yarbrough.

Phil Mickelson on Tuesday announced that his former caddie, Tim, who is his brother, has retired from this profession. This meant that he would need a new bagman from now on.

As per reports from Golfweek, the 45-time PGA Tour winner will now have the services of veteran Jon Yarbrough by his side. The caddie will now join him up for the foreseeable future and will handle his bag at the 2024 Masters. Further reports from ProGolfCritic claims that the two have already started working together and recently visited the Augusta National.

Yarbrough has previously caddied for golfers such as Scott Stalings, Gary Woodland and Bill Hass. While all this golfers have made a name for themselves on the tour, Mickelson has been on a different level and working for him will come with a little pressure.

His first job with Mickelson will be at the LIV Golf Miami event. This tournament, taking place at the Trump Doral course in Florida, is scheduled a week earlier than the Masters. How will this new partnership work out is something many are eager to see now.

Phil Mickelson labels working with brother Tim as “beyond special”

Playing a sport with their siblings is something many athletes have done while growing up. However, very few have got the chance to play together with their loved ones. Phil Mickelson was one of the lucky ones who got to have his family by his side for eight years. He has now described the experience of working together with his brother as “beyond special“.

In a statement released on X, Mickelson wrote:

I’ve had some great accomplishments in my career and getting to share them with my brother Tim has been beyond special. I’m very lucky to have had him on the bag for me the past eight years and as my brother for life. Phil Mickelson on his brother Tim.

Before Tim took over the work as Mickelson’s caddie, the 53-year-old veteran’s bag was handled by Jim “Bones” Mackay. The pair of Mickelson and Mackay would work for 25 years before going in separate directions in 2017.

Since then, Tim has been the looper for “The Lefty“. In this eight-year time period, Tim was on the bag for Mickelson’s three victories. However, the biggest one of them was at the PGA Championship in 2021 where Phil Mickelson became the oldest player to win a major championship.
