...won't stay in Vegas! We're giving my fans a souvenir rally bandana to wear to the fight - Shari has details on her blog on how to pick yours up. See you in the stands Saturday night!
Can't wait!!! Will be cheering you on from my living room in the UK, in the very early hours of Sunday morning. We all know you can beat him; don't fall for his mind games! (Make sure someone checks for his long fingernails before the fight too..... I noticed them on Primetime this week - extra weapons)
GSP, you are such an inspiration to me and to the sport of MMA. I am so very proud to be your fan because of your kind heartand athleticism. I am looking forward to you defending your title on saturday night. No doubt in my mind that you will win. No matter what happens at least you carry respect for the sport and your opponent. Unlike BJ Penn who insists on using rude, vulgar comments towards your skills. Good luck!!!!
Bon travaille George merci on apprecie ce que tu fait pour tes fan merci. Here is where I got my head band if your at home or in a sports bar. http://www.bugei.com/subcategory_81.htm if I'm not mistaken it's the ''certain victory'' GO GSP, VAS Y SAC S'Y EN TOUTE UNE RACLER!!!!!!!
What WILL happen in Vegas is Georges will retain his Championship, fight a great fight. Celebrate with his awesome manager Shari, training team and fans... Rock it at the ROCK then make up for 6 weeks of lost time with the sweetest of the sweet, sweet, sweet babes. GO GSP!!!!
Be watching from home... You should extend your after party til next weekend. I'll be in Vegas one week late. Put him in his place. You'll win in less then 3 rounds. Good Luck!
GSP....I WISH WE COULD HAVE SEEN YOU IN VEGAS THIS YEAR!!! We had tickets in January 2007, but you were infjured....WE DID SEE COTE WIN against Scott Smith! After that missed opportunity...we went to the Houston fight....left crying....but STILL WORE the GSP shirts and sweats PROUDLY!!! You are an amazing athlete...you have the most gentlemanly behavior ever displayed in the sport....you really make me...a Master's Degree in Education....proud to be a UFC fan!!! BTW....AWESOME ENGLISH....your English just keeps getting better! GODSPEED GSP...from Houston, TEXAS!
BJ said you were a quitter....well, one word says it all --KARMA! You were dominating the whole time.
Your focus and dedication is absolutely admirable. We need to sit and chat; we really do...I need to pick your brain for about 10 minutes since you are a complete mystery. Oh, and the Oleee---Oleee at the end was cute...Congratulations Georgee! ;-) ~ Michelle
Congratulations Georges!!!
Tonight you showed who was the man in the octagon and who is the quitter!!! BJ talked a lot of trash before the fight, but you stayed cool and convinced with your arguments inside the octagon. My biggest respect man!! You're a great and really inspiring person and a real person to look up to. Not only your athleticism, your strength but your unbending will and discipline and your respectful and natural character make you a very special person!!
Thanks for kicking BJ's a** and my biggest respect from Germany!!!
Congratulations GSP! THANK YOU for shutting BJ up. You are truly an example to everyone in MMA, by having respect for yourself, your opponents, all the fans, and your sport. Merci beaucoup et salut, Georges!!!
There must be some truth to the saying "actions speak louder than words" ...and they did on January 31st.
The definition of a champion begins with the ability to overcome not just an opponent, but also personal shortcomings in every aspect. The fame, fortune and attention one gets when he is up, on top, is a very good reason for a champion to loose his ground, and become a spectacle/show-off. This is when being a champion requires that inner strength, that only a TRUE ONE can posses, to overcome the superficiality of non-sense.
It's been said that...to get wat you want you gotta put in 90% sweat and 10% talent/genius. Surrounding yourself in a "buble" thinking that you are some sort of a pure genius and you have the ability to use your talent to be the best, it's not just ignorant and self-centered but it will get you to the exact same spot of a spectacle/show-off position . There is little value to a champion when humbleness is overlooked for the benefits of self-importance, which by the way is sustained by a bunch of "yes-men" and a lot of media hype...
On the other hand a TRUE CHAMPION is not a fake, pretending tht he has got to be a champion because he was only winning, he acknowledges defeats and takes them graciously, perseviring with hard work, focusing on goals. When goals are attained, and he is the champion he never forgets to bow in respect towards his beaten opponent, acknowledging his hard work that had gotten him into the changeller's position.
On January 31st, GSP remained the TRUE CHAMPION, winning over BJ Penn and proving again to the world and millions of MMA fans that he is the undisputed, proud welterweight champion of the world.
Just returned home from seeing your awsome, awsome performance. You were amazing in the octagon yet again! I just wish you would have came into the reserved tables area in the back of ROK! We wanted to meet the CHAMP! Next time right!! : )) Hopefully you will be headlining the card for UFC 100, we will be there and would love to see you fight live again!
Again Georges, awsome job shutting up the trash talker! You are a great person and athlete!! We love u!! I must get some rest now, sleep didn't really happen in Vegas over the weekend and I am still going from Saturday, 7am!!
Great job beating the crap out of Penn! I was waiting for that since he called you a quitter! I'm sure that fight shut his mouth for good. It goes to show you that working on your strength and fighting skills pays off more than working on your trash talking skills. I knew you had him from the jump, you are way more disciplined and hard working than BJ. Congrats! I wish I could have been there to see it myself...
I just wanted to stop in and say CONGRATULATIONS GSP on the Spectacular Victory against BJ Penn!!! Guess it goes to show that people who talk the talk...BEST make sure they can walk the walk...Unfortunately BJ wasn't successful and hopefully this LOST will Humble him. GREAT athletes just bring their GAME...Like YOU did!!! You truly are a role model and Inspiration for young ones to mirror! Thank you for not stooping to the level that some fighters resort to with all the TRASH talking NON SENSE...YOUR Character and Humbleness Mesmerizes Me Fight After Fight!!! You're a TRUE CHAMPION in EVERY Aspect of the word!
In all the years I have been watching your fights...I NEVER in this lifetime thought I'd get to meet you in person. BUT...My Ultimate Dream came true the night I got to meet you in person at the Neal Blasidell Center!!! Thanks for the AWESOME Memories...A Night I Will NEVER FORGET!!! Take Care & God Bless Always!!!
Aloha Au Ia 'Oe
WHOO, GREAT JOB see BJ hard work does pay off. I do have a question for BJ who went home crying now and layed in bed a f*** him self? I am so happy that you shut him up and now he knows who the real quitter is. He was needing a nap after the second round, cardio cardio and heart is what GSP is all about.
Congrats Georges! You did an amazing job like we all knew you would. You are a true role model. We are lucky to be able to watch such an amazing athlete in the octagon! You worked so hard to prepare for this fight and it showed. Take some time and RELAX!!!
Hi George great fight! You are my favorite fighter! I was in Vegas and i have never attending a fight before but I am so glad this was my first time to be there in person! I was trying to find a bandana everywhere to wear to the fights...does anyone know if they are still available?
AGAIN GEORGE THANK YOU FOR A ENTERTAINING NIGHT!
Nicole (Vancouver, BC)
Hey, great fight. Congrats! I would love to see you come to Hawai'i sometime! Although I'm sure a lot would be against that. But who cares. It would make me happy!
I'm with you...GSP coming to Hawaii again would WITHOUT a DOUBT make the both of us HAPPY!!!
I was truly DISAPPOINTED with how BJ represented the Hawaiian people. He showed so little diginity, especially with his cussing, wanna be bad a** attitude on UFC Primetime Show. Hawaii is suppose to be the LAND OF ALOHA and GSP has ALOT more Aloha than our own Local Boy. BJ didn't stop to THINK about the example he would be showing many of the young kids watching...to me that DOESN'T represent a Prodigy I would want my kids looking up to. If I ever heard my kids speaking such filth on national television and showing an attitude of disrespect, He'd have to get in a ring with me before he'd be able to face his opponent! Didn't Mom ever tell you..."If you have NOTHING nice to say...Don't open your mouth?"
Watching your segment on the UFC Primetime was INCREDIBLE!!! To see how hard you worked throughout the years to get where you are today. Your Ohana "Family" must truly be PROUD of such a FINE Son! No one handed you anything on a silver platter...and you brought home THE GOLD CHAMPIONSHIP BELT!!! No one could have worked harder nor would be more deserving of such a Title then YOU!!!
Regardless of the Vaseline Controversy...BJ without a doubt would have lost! Now it's time to lick your wounds and move on. GSP ANYTIME You come to Hawaii...you'll have us waiting!!! Lots of ALOHA!!!
I can't wait to read your next blog presumably about your latest win vs BJ Penn. (Only the 2nd UFC fight I've ever watched. I'm a real pacifist but my good friend is very into the whole UFC thing, so to pacify him, I watched your fight.) You're obviously a gifted fighter but your charm and humility make you a fine human specimen.
Rush, your fight with Penn was pure domination! The first time I saw you fight was against Matt Hughes at UFC 50. Even though you lost that fight, I knew that we were going to see great things from you. Keep up the great and inspiring work and I can't wait to see your next fight. You're going to own Thiago Alves :) PS: What's the song on your website? Ever since I heard Samurai by Shurik'n, I've been obsessed with French rap lol
Anybody who truely knows MMA will realize that there was nowhere near enough vaseline for it to become a disadvantage to bj penn. He got ran through, that was one of the best dominations ive seen. BJ is looking for a way to dodge responsibility for his cheap comments.
Congratulations on a dominating victory George! In my humble opinion, you are already the best pound for pound fighter to ever compete in MMA! Best wishes to you nd your family!
We made it home to Northern Ontario from Vegas, still smiling after Saturday's VICTORY!
Georges, this is a huge 'thank you', from fellow Canadians for making us all proud. From Athlete of the Year, to your dedication to your craft, and the respect you always show your opponents (when most of us are disgusted by the absurd trash talk!!)...you are THE MAN!!
Vegas was wicked. You are a champion and Canada is proud of your huge accomplishments!
I think you have re-defined the term 'ripped'... WOW.
Have you ever heard of innocent until proven guilty. I thought we live the United States Of America, I guess not if we have idiots like stephan81 making unproven accusations like this. Just let the NSAC do there job you BJ Sack sucking moron.
Kick-Ass performance GSP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It's truly amazing to watch you evolve as a fighter, this was as good if not better than Shane Mosely's last fight. and let me tell you he kicked ass!
Georges, you have an awesome tight blue Royce Gracie Jiu Jitsu T-shirt. I saw you wearing it a lot when you were training. Where did you get it? Will that be part of your next t-shirt collection?
What happens in Vegas is that the money always stays in Vegas. How can all the odds makers be so right 95% of the time in a supposedly unpredictable sport such as MMA? BJ Penn winning just wasn't in the script. The greasing thing is a sideshow to distract. GSP wins due to quitting. If you review the entire fight from planning to execution with this in mind, everything makes sense. The sport is much bigger than two guys fighting in a cage. Just follow the money. Everyone is for sale. But as the guy in Gladiator says, "Are you not entertained?!"
GSP,keep your head up, and remember that the way you handle this "greasing" thing will be part of defining your legacy. Stay classy and take the higher road through this crazy situation. As aggravating as this all is, just remember that you know the truth deep down, and that's really all that matters.
Keep kicking butt, and I look forward to watching you put the hurt on Thiago Alves!
YOU DON'T GET THIS FAR IN YOUR PROFESSION AND HAVE A "MISTAKE" LIKE THE VASCILINE INCEDENT. GSP KNEW EXACTLY WHAT WAS GOING ON AND HAS DOING IT FOR YEARS. WATCH HIS PREVIOUS BIG WINS AND YOU'LL SEE THE SAME THING BETWEEN ROUNDS.
IF YOU ARE DEFENDING GSP, YOU ARE HOLDING A DOUBLE STANDARD, LIKE THE PEOPLE WHO BASH BARRY BONDS BUT MAKE EXCUSES FOR GSP. CHEATING IS CHEATING IS CHEATING.
WHY DO YOU THINK THAT THERE IS AN OUTCRY AGAINST HIM AND NO ONE ELSE. IF YOU THINK IT'S A JEALOUSY ISSUE, THEN WHY AREN'T PEOPLE ACCUSING ANDERSON SILVA OR URIAH FABER? OR ANY OTHER SUCCESSFUL FIGHTER WHO WINS WITH CLASS.
GSP JUST WROTE HIS OWN LEGACY.........CHEATER! CHEATER!
Dude,
First of all, this is the first time he's ever been ACCUSED of an incident like this. For you to make the statement that he's been doing it in all his fights is ignorant. Believe me, the UFC is watching everything all the time so I'm sure they would have caught something before had it been there.
Secondly, if you watch what happened, it was his one corner man rubbing his traps and talking with him all at the same time. That was it! But everyone is saying his back was lubed up with Vasoline, what a crock. Fighters faces have way more vasoline on them than the little that may have made it onto his shoulders. And then think about where all that Vasoline goes?
The UFC official standing next to GSP saw what had happened and abruptly took a towel and wiped GSP's shoulders a little. I don't think they saw it as cheating either, just accidental.
BJ had no chance in that fight and I like BJ. BJ needs to stay at lightweight since that's where he's quick and at his best. Stop coming on here like a troll to diss on GSP as a cheater unless you can prove without a doubt that he has. If you want to make a statement, then do so in a civilized way. Otherwise, go to the BJ page.
Matt
First you need to take BJ's D**K out of your mouth and wipe his S**T off your nose. The amount of Vaseline that was applied be it accidental or not was residual after Nurse have already spread it around GSP face and not the directly from Nurse left hand. Second everybody have to keep in mind that they have already fought a whole round before GSP got him to the ground in the second and they both where sweating not just GSP. Third I don't know why with all these gif's on the internet of Penn slipping with his legs is when try the high guard but no one shows that in the first minute or so he did secure a high guard while holding it with his left hand only to let it go due to the fact that GSP was stronger, faster and trained for that hold by posturing up and forward. It is so odd that all the Penn nuthuggers seem to obviously miss that, so odd isn't it? One more thing typing with all caps make you look dump as hell, so grow up. If you want to call someone a cheater you should call your boy BJ one because the last time I checked he's the one that like poking people in the eye and grabbing opponents shorts. Let the NSAC do there job before you put in you half ass cent of a opinion.
Gsp, I have been a fan of yours since the pet sprat fight. I just wanted to say all the allegations people are throwing at you are ridiculous. I have watched the replay of the corner several times and I can see why people are upset. Your corner man does rub your chest and back after applying Vaseline to your face. But lets be realistic even if there was Vaseline on his hands it was a very small amount people are making it sound like you took a bath in it. Second between rounds 2-3 and I assume 3-4, you clearly see the commissioner wiping you with a towel. So what is the problem. When I watched the fight I saw you dominate in rounds 3 and 4 ie not when you were greased up. Where is the foul? People needed to calm down. Some people don't like you so they will find any excuse to hate. You are a great representative of the sport. A classy guy who can rock a suit. This will all blow over after you next fight. Look forward to watching it win or lose. Some fans stick with a guy.
Hey goingdowntown why don't you get a brain while your "down town" & learn how to spell too? Also, if there was vaseline on GSP it could work against him just as easily like, slipping into a submission of one kind or another. Give BJ a bj, bj, bj !!!! ALRIGHT? BABY J is being a typical BABY as usual !!!! He should just give up on this like he "quit" that night & leave the sport with some personal dignity before he makes a bigger a$$ out of himself than he already has.
I am a huge BJ Penn fan. I just want to apologize on behalf of all BJ Penn fans. Nobody can take away your victory or the level of dominance you displayed. I hope all this talk doesn't cause you too much pain. You are without a doubt one of MMA's most dynamic athletes not to mention a fine example for others coming up in this sport.
George Congrats on a dominate Victory.GSP VS Penn 3. If BJ is no too scared too fight I would love too see you crush him in the first round with a TKO and bloody and batter up his face shut his mouth permanently and make him never want to enter the Octagon again. He is truly disrespectul to your talent and there is always trash talk before a fight but he took it too damn far.If he would have spent more time training then running his mouth and stuffing his face with Pizza and Burgers then he wouldn't have been looking like the joke he is.As far as Matt hughes his carrer is on a downward spiral like BJ Penn they need too look for any excuse they can.The Fact is Americans are a little Jealous and can't stand that a Canadian is dominating the UFC.
Hey Georges or Sherri,
Could you please send out to me one of you bandana's. I would love it so very much as I'm such a supporter of your team It would mean the world to me. I held with me a Quebec Toonie I was given a week before the last fight and put on my fireplace because I was thinking about the tatttoo and the flower. It just came from change at were I work and when I was so excited I showed everyone they said there are many in circulation. It was the only one I've seen and I think It's beautiful. It's still something I look at daily and reminds me of that fight because I was hoping for a VICTORY and It was such a great night..
