I AM Impressed with your performance!

It’s Thursday April 16 - there is a lot of stuff going on in the city of Montreal because it’s the weekend of UFC 97. Even though I’m not fighting, I’m pretty busy training and doing a lot of PR and stuff. On Friday I was invited to a little lunch with a bunch of reporter to promote the new video game UFC 2009 Undisputed. And I had to play for the first time against Dana White in front of everybody – all the reporter. And Dana was talking very loud that he was undefeated, he was 4 and 0 and beat [Michael] Bisping, Rampage Jackson, [Rich] Franklin and then Anderson [Silva] - so it was a very good challenge. I’m not a big fan of video game - I never played UFC Undisputed before. But I used play back in the day…Mortal Combat and Street Fighter on the Super Nintendo, but this game is pretty different and much more improved than the one that I’ve played before. So I pick my character [me] and Dana picked BJ Penn, and as the fight goes on it’s pretty even. And at the end, maybe by some luck, I’m able to knock him out and win the match. Everybody is laughing and I’m the one who is the most surprised of all. And I look at Dana and I yell at him “Ha! That’s your first loss! And I made your first loss in Montreal in front of my people!”. And he look at me and he respond “Are you sure you’re not cheating? I think you put some Vaseline on my remote!”, and I laugh like crazy. Playing myself in the video game was kind of strange - and it was pretty accurate of the moves that I use in real life. They have my Superman Kick, Superman Punch, and all my special move - that’s pretty interesting. I really enjoy it and I think just because of it. I’m gonna buy a video game with UFC Undisputed because it’s a pretty fun game to play.

After beating Dana I went to the Fan Club Q&A. It was pretty fun - I could meet many fans and especially one guy made me really laugh. He asked me the question, “What you want to do after your career?”, and then I respond, “I don’t know - maybe trainer or go back to school, but I think I’m gonna still be involved in the sport because I love it too much.” And one guy yell at me “Georges St-Pierre for Prime Minister!”, and all the crowd went crazy. Mike Goldberg and everybody was laughing - it was a pretty funny moment.

Then after that I met a Canadian soldier, Jody Mitic, who lost his leg(s) in Afghanistan in the war. At first I was pretty sad to see that, but I was very impressed with the way the guy handled himself and stayed very positive. You know, sometime our life go bad, but we forget that for some people it’s even worse than for us, so it give me more motivation when I see something like that when something bad happen to me.

Then at the weigh-in, I look at my two friend Denis Kang and David Loiseau. They were right on the nose - 185. I was very happy and I went back with my manager and had a great dinner at my favorite restaurant, Cavalli.

The next day it was UFC 97. Before the show I went training and I had one of my friend who were in town, Eric Owing - he’s a great jiu-jitsu guy. I train with him before the show and then after we all head to the Belle Center for the UFC. I was very disappointed for my friend David Loiseau - unfortunately he work really hard in training camp but the fight didn’t go his way. But I had some kind of consoling when I see Denis Kang – he fought a great fight and win in a unanimous decision. I think the best fight of the night was Shogun vs. Chuck Liddell - what a great performance by Mauricio “Shogun” Rua. The fight at the end was pretty boring and I felt bad because sometime the crowd was yelling “GSP!” while Anderson Silva and Thales Leites were fighting. And I felt bad - I think it’s kind of disrespectful for Anderson Silva and Leites, even though it make me feel happy a little bit. Sometime the fight doesn’t happen like people want - it’s a question of style and question of match-up. But I still think Anderson Silva is one of the best pound-for-pound in the world with Fedor Emelianenko. I been screaming so much during that show because I was sitting with Lorenzo Fertitta right in front, and I was yelling instruction to my friend - so I end up losing my voice and it take me a couple of days to get back to it. (That’s why I haven’t blogged in a while.)

The Sunday after UFC 97, I head to New York for training at Renzo Gracie’s Academy with John Danaher and also at The Wat with Phil Nurse. Training was great and I had a chance to meet Brian Fox who made a painting of me. It’s the most accurate painting that I’ve seen of myself in my whole life. This guy is amazing - he’s got an incredible talent and it was a pleasure for me to meet this guy. Training is going very well. I had a chance to roll with some of the best jiu jitsu guys, spar with some of the best muay thai guys in the sport and it make me a better fighter every time.

I came back for the weekend in Montreal - time to rest a little bit and train with my home guys. But right away on Sunday I was supposed to go in Albuquerque - my plane got canceled after waiting three hour in the airport. Pretty bad - I’m very bad lucky with the plane, but it’s because of a storm in Chicago that I would have missed my connection and they decide to cancel my flight and [reschedule] it the next day. So I made it to Albuquerque on Monday - I came in Albuquerque to help out Rashad for his fight against Lyoto Machida and to be able to spar with some of the guys there to help me out, too. I think Rashad is gonna do well with Machida. Training camp is going well for him - he look very, very sharp. And I can’t wait – it’s gonna be a very interesting fight.

I want to finish by saying “thank you” to the fan who send me their logo for the contest. I have more than 500 entry. It’s gonna be very hard to pick the best one because they are all pretty good.

I am glad to hear everything is going well! I think most people that travel as much as you do are "..very bad lucky with the plane" ha ha.... Better to cancel then to be in the storm!
On a side note, my recommendation is to buy the Xbox360, signup with xbox live and fight your fans online! Now that would be sweet!

Nice to see you didn't jump on the bash Anderson Silva bandwagon. Again you show just how classy you are, so I shouldn't be surprised. By the way I loved it when you were battling it out with Dana White. I'm telling you I was so into it that at times I was actually holding my breath like it was one of your actual fights. LOL!!! Naturally leave it to grandma to ruin everything by saying I think it was playing with his video games so much before the Mike Swick fight that caused your close friend Jonathan Goulet to lose the fight. Everytime he left a note on Facebook, he mentioned his obsession with the game and I was worried he might have been slacking off his training because of it. Could you please wait until after the fight with Thiago to purchase the xbox--otherwise I will worry myself to death about you, like I did with Jonathan who I am sure I warned more than once.

The way I feel about airplanes and flying, I feel that your flight being cancelled was an act of God which kept you safe and I am grateful for it. Your fan Isabelle could tell you how much I hate it when she flies.

I am glad that you feel so much better, just be careful not to catch the darn swine flu in New Mexico. Tell Rashad "good luck!" I will be cheering for him. And thank you again for your generosity to me and my grandson Cody who has had his head in the clouds ever since receiving the headgear you signed for him--he feels luckier all ready. Man seing the Loiseau fight was hard...i look it up on the internet afterward without checking the result and David striking looked very very sharp but it look like he cant improve his wrestling. Im still a fan, wether its in the ufc or not hes one of the guy that got me watching with you in the UCC.
I always enjoy your blog and knowing your training hard for Thiago make me sleep better at night, its gonna be a great one I think, the guy is a monster but on ''MMA connected'' you looked bigger then ever too

I am too, at home, chants GSP while the Spider and Leites are fighting. Many considered it a boring fight but I think Silva just showed his showmanship. Remember the Ali - Foreman bout a long time ago? It was a classic fight which also considered boring but it is the birth of becoming a more tactical fighter where boxing became more of a mind sport than just doing barbaric attacks. Well, since this is MMA it should really have been a "clash" but I am pretty confident way before the bout (like the day it was a Silva - Leites bout on 97) that Leites has no match for Anderson! The only person left for Silva to fight on is nothing more but the 3rd overall pound - for - pound MMA fighter, Georges "rush" St.-Pierre! Perhaps a catchweight bout and will be a bigger and better event than UFC 100! haha... GSP! GSP! GSP!

Hey Georges..... it's been awhile...... great to hear how things are going. I checked out the Q&A fight club session on the web and I pretty entertained by the whole thing.... hope your feeling better.... you seemed under the weather that day. Too bad UFC97 didn't go as well as the fans wanted it to go.... but as you mentioned... fights don't always go as expected. Going to check out the movie 'Never Surrender' this week.... looking forward to seeing you conduct yourself as an actor. Wow... loads of travelling... muct be nice..... We know you are busy, but it's nice that you take alittle time out to keep us up to date on what you have been up to. Glad to hear that all is well with you, and i love to hear that you beat Dana while playing the new video game, too funny!!! I know that everyone thinks Machida is going to win against Rashad, but i'm just not feeling it and am going against everone here and sticking with Rashad. Get hin ready my friend, so i can brag after the fight and say "i told you so." I hope at least one of my designs land in the top ten, but i also know there are ALOT of talented people out there who have more experience at this kind of thing! But i must say, it has been a challenge, and fun to try and come up with something which represents you! Happy picking and can't wait to hear from you again! P.S.     I'm also rooting for Rashad, although I wouldn't be totally bummed if Machida won either. They both seem like nice guys, and are generally respectful. I think that Rashad is slightly faster, and has the edge on power and wrestling. I give Machida the edge in being able to land shots and take little himself. I just hope it's a good fight. I really don't want to see them dance for five rounds.

For some reason i do not believe this is gsp talking...i mean do you really think someone like gsp would take his time out to write these blogs...of course not he probly has someone fo it for him...and then take the "s" out of words to make it sound like him. You know gsp is very tired from training and all of the other things going on in his life..he does not care to talk to any of you...yes you are his fans...but fame comes with any great accomplishment. get real. gsp is probably greatful...but he really does not care THAT much about you. he is a man who is dedicated to an individual-type sport...he only really cares about himself...if he is not the best he cares nothign about you...seems alot more like myself.

Just to think I have been waiting for him to comment something to me :( I just don't know what I am gonna do with my day now!.........As long as he knows how much his fans stand by him and love him I don't care if he reads it or not!     Of course with the internet you'll always get the conspiracy fanatics and a load of pessimism. But if you've followed Georges and have seen interviews, you'll know he's a good guy. At the peak of an emotional moment like winning a match a guy isn't going to fake his emotion and what he says is off the cuff. It comes from the spur of the moment. He's pretty genuine. As far as the blogs, are you from Canda? I'm in Ottawa and have a lot of french friends, yes they speak like that. No biggy.

I was buisey getting my degree on!!! :) And i do have a few comments to make. As for Georges blog, it alwys nice to hear what is going on with you babe. I am super stoked that everything goes well! Be safe when flying always, and remember, sometimes getting somewhere fast is not always better. Dont "rush," ! hahahah! as for Evans vs. Machita. i am sooooo going for Rashad. He is a great fighter and i just think he is more technically sound than Machita. Also he is one of GSP's boys and that earns brownie points as far as i am concerned.

Now as to this logo contest, I have to say that i am super stoked that GSO would include any of his fans in this. To the guy who was questioning weather or not Georges writes his own blogs and such, I say does it really matter? Obviously he gives a damn what we think if he is willing to include us in the invention of his new logo! serioulsy man!

After staring at it for a few seconds, I really like the simple design of this entry: http://gspfightclub.com/photos/14GSP%20final%20-.jpg
It's effing clever how they used GSP to form the fleur-de-lis. I can see it selling really well on t-shirts because the design doesn't limit itself to having to stay the original color- picture it in black on a white tee, or red on a black tee.. Also, it seems to fit into the whole Branding ideal. Yep.
