I think people relate Jordan to his logo more than anything because the logo represents him, and not just his initials. Maybe if someone could draw up a similar image of gsp's superman punch, or something else that identifies the logo to GSP.

PS - i absolutely LOVED watching UFC 97 - when silva and Leites were in the middle of their round and all of a sudden you hear the crowd chanting "GSP!" "GSP!" What a compliment!!!

  Now you're thinking...and don't worry about posting this here first. The rules clearly state that it has to be 'original', so if someone else tried to subnit this, you'd have 'beat them to the punch', so to speak. Having said that, I'm sure we'll see many variations on 'GSP', so your call how much you want to share.

I really love the meaning behind the tattoo on your chest! If I recall it means two sides??? It woulds be neat to see that in the design.....I just can't explain what I am trying to say.... on one hand you seem to be such a gentleman and on the other hand you can throw a serious beat down!!!!! Good luck finding a great design I am sure all your fans would love it no matter what you decide................. You know the old saying I am a lover not a fighter...... Well you must be BOTH!!!!!! What a cool opportunity! I have TONS of ideas I'd like to submit, if only I knew how to use all those graphic programs. At most, i'm a beginner in photoshop. Argh!! I have having the creativity but not having the means to put it on paper. Maybe I can submit the theory of the logo instead of the actual hard copy???? No, prolly not.
I think i'll get working on something.

  You can sketch/draw it on paper and then have someone scan it into a format that you can submit if you're more comfortable that way - it's the concept that's important, not your skills at graphic software.

Though I don't like the actual logo, I think that " la fleur de lys " should still be part of your new logo. By wearing it, everytime you fight, you're telling everyone that we exist. Not trying to be uber patriotic here, but I think everybody should be proud of who they are.

Design contests will only get you amateur "work." GSP is a large name and has large bucks. Pay for a good designer/design team and you'll have something that respects the ins and outs of GSP the brand. Please don't rely on a contest to find something that is the most important aspect for a brand, the logo.

  The Vancouver 2010 Olympic Logo was selected through a design contest. Who says all the submissions will be from amateur work. I think it's awesome that his fans get to participate in creating a new look. It's the concept that they're looking for and I'm sure the winner will definitely represent everything GSP is!

one last comment, do you think Tiger Woods used an amateur design contest to make this amazing logo? Michael Jordon? No. If you want to be looked at on the same caliber as these amazing athletes (in which GSP is) please don't rely on a design contest! There are MANY great design firms out there that will do GSP justice.

  I was about to say the same thing as AlanaG. A major part of Georges' greatness comes from his devotion to his fans. Using an 'amateur' design as opposed to a professional design does not mean that he is on a lower level than these other athletes. If anything, by allowing us to partake in something this big, he will be gaining even more love, respect, and recognition. This puts him on an even higher caliber.

I think it's a great idea. It engages the fans more than what any other fighter would do. He's allowing us fans to design something that is going to represent him, be displayed at his fights. That's amazing.

I think it's a great idea to keep on a personal level with his fans. It allows the fans to feel appreciated and valued. I also think that GSP truly loves his fans, and it shows that GSP is not all about the amateur vs. professional crap, a logo is a logo no matter who developed it. I can't wait to see all the great ideas!!

It is classy that GSP would let his fans help with the logo cause if not for the fans these fighters and all athletes would be nothing. It gives us a chance to connect with Georges. It is too bad I suck at drawing and designing.

  Yeah, I was thinking all the colors could be changeable depending on what color trunks he's wearing, etc...
  As far as the fleur being too small, I agree, but I tried making it bigger, and it made the GSP less of the focus. I like to think of this rendition as GSP having the Fleur backing him. An earlier edition had the fluer on one half and the maple leaf on the other, but it just looked muddled. But everything in this can be colored independently, i.e. the fluer, the starburst, the text, the sheild, the outlines, etc. He can have a rainbow if he wants, lol... Thanks for the props...

Hello GSP! Based on the fact that many of your fans probably didn't catch the play on words with your nickname being "Rush," I have created a logo to bring it to the attention of English speaking GSP fans. St. Pierre translates to St. Peter. Georges St. Pierre is the rock of mma while St. Peter remains the rock of the church. Pierre also means stone or rock and can also be 'roche' which is pronounced "Rush!" Great name that perhaps many fans didn't know the layers...they probably just thought you were so fast that you chose the nickname 'Rush.' Anyway, maybe people on your end can improve on my logo. Cheers.

I think the Logo has to be something that will look good in color and B/W... remember that some things can't be printed in color. Also, to Abuabu, regarding the amateur work, I think it's OK that he solicits ideas from his fans, even if they are just amateur. First it let's him gain a perspective of what will make his brand more identifiable to his fans, help him know what his fans deem a priority and what he should focus on, it is after all, a brand. He is marketing himself to his audience. And secondly, I am sure he will take the designs he likes and take them to a professional to clean them up and make them look polished like the other logos.
I can tell you, Georges has a great advantage here having such an engaged fanbase. I didn't even know Tiger Woods had a logo, I looked at it and I didn't see Tiger. Here we are being given the opportunity to tell him exactly what we think of him, in a concise graphic.
He's a smart guy!

I use Adobe Illustrator CS3 and FlexiSign Pro, which are vector based programs, and I'll use Photoshop for finishing/effects when needed.

I used powerpoint but mine is just an example of what a professional could use as an example. I have never done graphic design so it was just to show the idea of roche / rush. I could be way off base and that was never a play on words since I do realize that pierre is a stone. Still, St. Peter is the "rock of the church" and I believe Georges St. Pierre is definitely the rock of Montreal in the sport of MMA.

Mononc doesn`t have to worry about me quitting my day job : )

Very nice...the kanji addition may be the unique quality that they were asking for.

Idea since I am not a graphic designer and you are...based on my premise that "Rush" was a play on words, why don't you use the stone look that I used for the octagon and for the upper GSP and make a stone fleur de lis. That might be cool. Anyway, you have talent.

Don't worry if you don't know Photoshop, Illustrator, etc. We're selecting the finalists based mainly on the concept - so if you're better off with a paintbrush or colored pencils, hopefully you're good with a digital camera. LOL

Ok, a true story about the havoc the logo contest is causing in my life. I have confessed to losing my artistic abilities, and this will let you know how far I have fallen. I have two pieces of jewelry which are very distinctive and lovely. I asked my husband to take a crystal encrusted Fleur de Lis belt buckle to Kinko's and have it photographed and blown up so I could use it to incorporate my ideas and try my hand at
usingcalligraphy on the picture with the buckle as a background. The ring is very fancy and has multicolored stones. So I thought I could hand color the crystals on the photo with the new permanent multicolored markers and then, when the colors dried, letter in black ink over them. Well, it did not work out as I had planned! Kinko's doesn't have the proper equipment for the task! Drat! Foiled again; although I am going to put up a picture here of the buckle and maybe someone with more talent than I , can run with the idea and make it work anyway.

I just was on eBay looking at clothes when it occured to me that a logo could be made with a Bedazzler fo real sparkle, even could be done by someone who can' draw. And studs on a black leather background might look cool too. Just a thought.t

Love theone with the Fleur De Lis incorporated and like the red bordered octagon, but would like bleu or shades of blue for the letters and a little slit in the P to make sure it appears as a P. then I agree, it is a killer and well done design!!!!!!!! REALLY GREAT WORK AND DEFINITELY GEORGES WORHTY, at least in my humble opinion! And I am sending the Willis family's entry in the morning.

  Ironically, I have my granddaughter's rejected ideas and she tried to draw a glove but got angry because it "just didn't look right" and will be so ungappy if you win, b/c she refused any help and was convinced it wasn't worth the trouble it was causing her. I love your design, even better now that I have seen this latest example posted, the colors are my only issue with it and as you say, that could easily be altered. I like red to symbolize both Canada's flag and courage, and blue for Quebec and Georges' beautiful eyes. It is wonderful work.

  Always good to see another vector artist plying their trade. lol... I think alot of people are putting too many effects in their designs, at least some of the ones shown. They have to remember that these will be screened on shrots, etc. and will need to be simplified. With vector, you can always add effects later in post-processing, but good clean lines and art are always the most iconic... Good work, btw!

    Oh, the logo itself is my "mayhem" version... or "rockin'" version... I also submitted a very clean simpler one (see below)... so "mayhem" was just to differenciate from the two. Had nothing to do with his nickname.

I'm pissed off, I think I did better than a lot of those logos. And different too. This is my entry.

The dragon is a symbol of all the qualities that were required as part of the logo design contest (Fearless, etc.), it also represents is karate base and background (it is a japanese style dragon). The fleur de lys doesn't have to be explained. The colors red, white and blue represent is french heritage. The rest is pretty self explanatory. Dammit! I wanted to be at UFC 100!

funny, i was alittle dissapointed in the top ten also, BUCKETHEAD, you my friend did a fabulous job!!! I would have chose yours over any of the top ten.....why do you think they decided to throw in the old logo?? Holy sh*t. Now that the other logos are coming out, I wonder if the panel of judges was blind. Really, I'd like to see the requirements again and see how those logos that were choosen fit in the requirements. And see the judges criteria, cause quite frankly. All those logos are weak compared to what I'm seeing posted here.

unbelievable... so many of these entrys are better than the ones that made it to top 10...
they did a bad job selecting those top 10 when it should have been for the people that spend alot of time making those logos...
the ones up on gspfightclub.com are too simple.... i could have done it in less than 5 min...

Wow, I'm really not impressed with the "top ten". They're not great. It seems like they were just looking for a variation of the fleur de lis logo they already had. I was thinking more along the lines of Michael Jordan's "dunk man". Someting more athletic looking, something more dynamic, something a fighter would wear.

I can't believe everyone! Who are you to say which ones should of made it . It was up to them to pick what they liked and thats what they did. I really hope they don't end up with the old one... If the old one gets picked they should start again!!!!. Trust me there are ones I have seen that blow some of those away but its not my logo its GSP's logo. You should respect the choices. Hey there Pamala, could you tell me that you think that those were the 10 best logos you've seen out of all the logos that have been posted on here at YardBarker? I realise it's their choice but there's people around here that put a lot more thought and work in their logos than for instance #9. Look at it! It looks like it's been drawn in thirty seconds on a piece of napkin! The person didn't even bother writing Georges St-Pierre 'leveled'. And look at that scribble under 'rush'. I don't think it's fair for all the great logos I've seen floating around that that has been chosen.

If you read what I wrote I said.... I saw alot of them I thought were better.. but I thought they were better.... And remember what it said in the fine print it can be about just the concept and it can be changed It says to picture it in differnt colors so they just like those designs the best. There are two out of the ten I liked the first one and the one that is grey and white and very simple. There were many I loved that didn't make it. I did mine with colored pens on a sheet of paper dosen't mean I didn't try my hardest or my best. I had an idea and didn't know how to do it on a computer so it sucked for me too. But A really nice guy ask me if I wanted him to do it for me and he did my idea and I loved it . I didn't make the dealine but his logo is in the top ten so I voted for his logo I really like it and can see it on a banner at a fight.. this is my idea that he made for me on the computer! I would of never been able to see my design if it wasn't for him!!!

  No there are two I think are fine the way they are and I can see them on banners and on shorts etc.. but I guess if you take the time to look at them with a open mind and can imagine what a professional is going to do with them they might look amazing thats all I am trying to say. what i dont approve for that top ten is that they asked us to make loko that look like Tiger Woods, Michale Jordan, and Chris Angel, but NONE of the selected logo look like those logos... Add this to the words they ask us to base our logo, like excellence, athletic, discipline... sorry i dont see those words in the top ten. As an experience graphic designer, i would say VERY bad pic for the top ten. A logo should be VERY simple with a nice concept, once again, i dont see that in the top ten. Very disapointed for you GSP, because u worht more then that.

It just doesn't seem like it was something they were looking for(jordan...tigerwoods..etc). Oh wells, congrats to them anyway!

I feel everyone's entry was unique and showing a different style. I'm happy for those who made it, although I feel that there are some really great logo's here also. And another thing.... I don't feel it's right for anyone to say that the logo's picked are no good, after all the person behind every logo did put their time and effort thinking it was a great design.
